The City of Evanston will host its sixth annual “Evanston Recycles” event from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 9 at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Ave. The free “drive up, drop off” event provides residents an opportunity to recycle a variety of items, including electronics and medications. Participants will also be able to bring up to five banker’s boxes of paper documents to be securely shredded.
To continue supporting community members and businesses in transitioning away from disposable plastic shopping bags, the City will again collect reusable bags at the event for distribution at Evanston community centers and library locations. Reusable bags of any kind can be donated; bags should be in usable condition. To learn more about Evanston’s Shopping Bag Ordinance, which took effect in August 2015, visit cityofevanston.org/bags.
Random Acts of Flowers, a non-profit organization with a branch location in Evanston, is returning this year. They will be collecting vases to use for flower deliveries to community members in nearby health care facilities.
The City’s “Evanston Recycles” event is supported by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC), NorthShore University HealthSystem and Stericycle. The recycling event is open to residents of all the SWANCC communities.
Additional details can be found in the City’s press release.
