Holiday Light Recycling

The City of Evanston, in conjunction with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC), began its annual holiday light recycling program on Monday, December 1.

Holiday string lighting and extension cords can be dropped off for recycling at the Evanston Ecology Center, Main Evanston Library and Levy Senior Center. This year’s donations will be recycled through a program supported by the City of Evanston, SWANCC and Elgin Recycling.

All holiday string lighting and extension cords are acceptable in this free program. Garlands, live greens and wreaths will not be accepted.

The holiday light recycling program will run through Saturday, January 31, 2015. Lights can be dropped off at the following Evanston locations:

Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd.
8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday

Main Evanston Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
10 a.m. –  9 p.m., Monday through Thursday
10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday
Noon – 6 p.m., Sunday

Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.
7 a.m. – 9 p.m., Monday through Friday
9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
