Pipes & Precipitation Activities and Field Trips

Help out with these water related field trips for schools in the coming weeks.

NEEDED:   Volunteer chaperones for 3rd and 6th grade field trips
WHAT:  A year-long project on water (Pipes and Precipitation)
WHEN:  See dates and times below (fall and spring)
WHERE:  See locations below
WHY: Participate in water related, locally relevant collaborative learning in Evanston!
RESPONSIBILITIES:  Depends on the field trip but requires ability to walk two blocks/walk in sand. Helps to have a knack with kids.

Water Treatment Plant (WTP)—3rd grade: You would be asked to make contact with the lead teacher (Clare will facilitate this) so he/she will know to expect you. Most likely you would stand where the teacher/s are not, in other words, you would help monitor students for behavior inside of the WTP, and for safety during the two block walk to the Lighthouse. Post trip evaluation (email) to Clare would be much appreciated.

Adopt-a-Beach (AAB) clean up—6th grade: You would be asked to make contact with the lead teacher (Clare will facilitate this) so he/she will know to expect you.You would help hand out kits (a plastic bag, pencil, data collection card and glove) to teams of 3-4 students and help student teams dispose properly of waste at the end. If you have participated in an AAB cleaning and have done the scientific data form, you could lead a small interested group in getting that information during the cleanup. If you haven’t had training but are interested, Clare can help. A follow up evaluation via email is appreciated.
